Louise David RN RM IBCLC
Hi, I'm Louise. I'm a Registered Nurse, Privately Practicing Midwife and Lactation Consultant. Not to mention, mother of four beautiful children. My twins are 17, little brother is 12 and our girl is 5. I'm raising my family here in Wollongong, where I call home.
My passion for helping mums on their birthing and breastfeeding journeys began after having my own children and learning for myself the difficulties new mums can face navigating a hospital system and then adjusting to life with a new baby.
I have first hand experience as a mother with many different aspects of the hospital birthing system including preterm birth (my twins were 31 weeks), instrumental birth of vaginal twins, NICU in two busy Sydney hospitals, NICU at Wollongong Hospital, breastfeeding difficulties, Midwifery Group Practice (MGP), Homebirth, breech vaginal birth, re-lactation and co-feeding.
After the difficult, scary birthing and postnatal experience of my preemie twins, I went on to have the most healing and wonderful birth at home with my healthy full term little boy. You can read the full birth story of Rhys's vaginal breech home birth here. I then had the amazing opportunity to
re-lactate and enjoy the experience of co-feeding my baby girl that my wife so magically birthed at home.
I have 18 years' professional lactation experience under my belt, the past 13 years as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). I also have more than six years personal breastfeeding experience, feeding my twins for two and a half years, my youngest son just on two years and my daughter for two years.
I have been a midwife for 18 years and worked within the public and private sectors before establishing my private practice in 2014. I am a registered Medicare-eligible endorsed midwife, which means my clients have access to government subsidised care. My midwifery scope covers the range of maternity care including antenatal, homebirth and postnatal care.
I look forward to working with you and your family and making a difference in your pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding and parenting journey.
